Large Layering Die Gift Box

This step-by-step shows how I created the above card, it features the Tonic Studios Large Layering Die – English Picnic. I love this die as it features a nice selection of different shaped and panel layering dies, such as a trellis and a flower pattern very similar to broiderie anglaise.

1. Firstly I cut the top, which is 7 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches in white card. Score a line at 1 inch around all sides, and cut a triangle at the corners where the two lines intersect. Do this on all four sides.

 

2. Then I cut the base of the box 2mm smaller. And again score a line at 1 inch around all sides, and cut a triangle at the corners where the two lines intersect. Do this on all four sides.

3. Use wet glue to secure the corners in place.

4. I then cut a navy and a white rectangle using the Mixed Rectangle Layering Die set.

5. Place the larger patterned die onto the white rectangle and run through your die machine.  You may have to turn it at 90 degrees and run back through your machine due to the delicate detail on the die.

6. Using the outer die of the smaller broiderie anglaise die cut 1 navy and 1 white rectangle.

7. Cut one rectangle out of Craft Perfect Cobalt Velour.

8. Place the patterned die onto the white rectangle, run through your die cutting machine.

9. Glue the white patterned card onto the navy card.

10. Place foam pads onto the back of the navy card to help create a 3D effect.

11. Stick the large dies onto the top of the box, next glue the plain velour satin card on the large dies.

12. Attach the smaller dies onto the centre of the large matt and layered dies.

13. I then added a sentiment to the inside of the box – but if you’re making it for gifts you can either leave it blank and bulk it out with tissue paper or add a patterned paper to suit.

 

And that’s it! – a fabulous gift box for family and friends, perfect for a birthday or Christmas present!
